Banana Pudding DessertI gave my boyfriend three birthday wishes for the month of his birthday (March). As the month drew to an end on Saturday he still had not given me his last wish. Finally when I pushed him a little more he settled on banana pudding, apparently the wish-making had been stressing him out. I’m glad banana pudding is such a stress reliever. When I told him I would be making my own pudding, not from a mix like the Magnolia recipe, he was flabbergasted.

How do you make pudding?

Three people asked me the same question at work the next day….continue reading for insider pudding knowledge.

Snowman Jello Mold

Police are still searching for suspects.

I ate a lot of Jello growing up.  At my grandmother’s house we’d either have Jello or apple sauce as a snack and in elementary school I would take Jello single serving cups in my lunch box.  I still love the stuff, but virtually never eat it.  I got this really cool Snowman cake pan last Christmas and thought it would make the perfect Jello mold. Melted Ice Cream Bread Pudding

Last Friday my boyfriend said he’d bought me a flavor of ice cream that I was either going to love or going to hate.  When I asked the flavor and he replied “pumpkin” I immediately scowled.  He had good reason to think that I love pumpkin.  I’ve been stockpiling pumpkin for several months.  I heard there was a pumpkin shortage and wanted to be prepared.  It’s not because I am a pumpkin fanatic, but because everyone else seems to love it so much.  I predominantly bake for other people, hence, the pumpkin stockpile.

Mixed Berry Terrine

I’ve wanted to try this recipe for a long time, and the stars finally aligned this weekend.  Berries were incredibly cheap at my local fruit stand and we were cursed with a heat wave in New York City which made turning the oven on impossible.  I’m really disappointed I couldn’t get a better picture of this terrine.  It’s delicious and the picture above really doesn’t do it justice. Panettone Bread Pudding

Posted: May 17th, 2010 | Jessie | | Tags: bread pudding, Breakfast | No Comments »

Recently my local supermarket gave out free boxed loaves of panettone in honor of Mother’s Day.  I’ve never had panettone before, but I imagined that it was dry and tasteless considering how long those yellow boxes seem to sit around grocery stores.  I’m pretty sure the reason I received this loaf was because the panettone was left over from the holidays and its July expiration date was rapidly approaching.  I put it on a shelf and decided I’d make bread pudding with it on the next cool evening.

Guess what? Panettone is delicious.  When I was cutting it into cubes I had a nibble.  It was so good that I contemplated not making bread pudding at all and just eating the loaf as toast.  The bread was really sweet and moist and had these amazing pieces of crystallized lemon peel in it.  I should probably be suspicious of how long its shelf life is, but it was really good so I’m not going to question it.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Parfaits

Last week me and my boyfriend both bought 1/2 gallon containers of milk on the same day.  Since we normally can barely finish one half gallon before the milk goes bad I had to make something that used up a LOT of milk…PUDDING!

I really love making pudding.  The moment when you are stirring the liquid and it suddenly become solid is very exciting.  It makes me feel like a scientist.  This recipe is very easy.  I made some changes since the point of making up this pudding was to use up some leftover milk.  I thought it was still very creamy even though I used 1% milk instead of a combination or whole milk and cream.  I imagine if you tasted the 1% version alongside the full fat version you would notice the difference, but on its own it didn’t seem lacking.  And if you’re like me and are wary of low-fat desserts, don’t worry:  this recipe has chocolate and peanut butter so it’s anything but.
